What students said after rotating here

hands-on
  • 23-24Rotator in 2023/24 described an operative-heavy rotation with the majority of time spent in the OR, high trauma volume as the area's only Level 1 center, and chiefs and PGY3/4s running rooms while walking juniors through cases. Rotators reported interns had a dedicated OR day without call. A new orthopaedic specialty hospital was opening.
  • 20-21Two rotators in 2020/21 described a high-volume program with strong hand, trauma, and peds exposure, PGY3s running their own trauma cases, and a 1 week peds / 1 week hand / 2 week trauma rotator schedule. Rotators reported a 5am fracture conference and daily didactics. Rotators also noted concerns about professional conduct from some trauma faculty and described spine and sports as weaker subspecialties.
  • 19-20Details withheld for this cycle.
  • 18-19Rotator in 2018/19 described four rotators per block with most brought back for interviews, strong operative experience with PGY3s running their own trauma room, excellent fellowship outcomes, night float call, and a supportive resident group. Resident perks were robust.
  • 17-18Rotator in 2017/18 described a large central-Florida trauma center with growing research focus, engaged leadership, and a close-knit resident group with strong perks.
  • 16-17Rotator in 2016/17 described heavy call for the first two years followed by a dedicated trauma room as a PGY3, a PGY2 year focused on peds and hand, and a 3-month tumor rotation in Tampa. Faculty and facilities were well-regarded.
  • 14-15Three rotators in 2014/15 described a privademic trauma-focused program with an engaged chair, a faculty group invested in resident education, high case volume, and a 3-month tumor block in Tampa. Residents were described as cohesive and happy.
